About Waterbear Workshop
Waterbear Workshop runs short, hands-on, outdoor workshops where kids ages 6–12 and an accompanying grown-up build real things side by side — solar-powered motors, radios that work without cell service, cardboard machines, off-grid cooking, and more.
It's a sibling project of Waterbear Field School: the same learn-by-doing, off-grid, curiosity-first spirit, shaped into family-friendly sessions you can register for one at a time.
What a session is like
- Outdoors, in most weather. Dress for the day — mud and weather are part of the fun.
- One grown-up per child. Kids and caregivers work as a team; grown-ups aren't spectators.
- Everything provided. We bring the tools, parts, and materials. You bring curiosity.
- Small groups. Sessions are capped so everyone gets hands on the hardware.
Who's behind it
Waterbear Workshop is run by the same crew of tinkerers, engineers, and educators behind Waterbear Field School and the Edge Collective — folks who love helping people understand and build the technologies they depend on.
